Embedding Theorems for Cyclically Presented Groups
Martin Edjvet (Nottingham), 3rd December 2009
Abstract
We show how intersections of Magnus subgroups of
one-relator groups can influence when a subgroup embeds in
a cyclically presented group. The ideas are developed from
earlier examples due to Graham Higman and then Steve Pride.
The proofs use group actions on trees. Much of the talk is
joint work with Jim Howie. We will also describe briefly
some joint work with John Cremona on cyclic presentations.
