MTH5117 MATHEMATICAL WRITING: coursework

Preparation

All coursework must be submitted in pdf format. No other format is accepted.

You may use any software, as long as your document is converted to a single pdf document before submission.
The program LyX, available on the students' network, is easy to use and can generate pdf output.

To use LyX, you must

log in, choosing Standard Student Service
choose an environment, e.g., Windows
click on: Start -> Programs -> Dept -> MikTeX-LyX -> LyX
open a Toggle Math Toolbar (next to rightmost icon on the main toolbar)
typeset your document
when you've finished, convert your file to pdf format (one of the icons on the second toolbar)

If you want to use other programs (such as Maple or Microsoft Word), please consult section `What software to use' in the School of Mathematical Sciences documentation on writing mathematical documents.

If you plan to do a final year project, you are strongly advised to use LaTeX, which is the only software used by professionals.

Submission

The coursework is submitted using QMplus
You have access to QMplus only if you are correctly registered for this course.
